Okay, not so shocked

Once again a poorly planned "upgrade" has gay.com down during prime time (at least for the U.S.). Yeah, the work that was supposed to be done in 8 hours is now over 16 hours. While they announced this upgrade in advance on gay.com they didn't bother to make any mention of it in their blog until the site had already been down at least 5 hours longer than anticipated.

Site Update - April 7

We are in the midst of a major system upgrade that will improve performance on gay.com. Unfortunately, given the complexity of the maneuver, it’s taking a little longer than we expected.

Thanks for checking in and please bear with us as we work to get gay.com up and humming for you again soon.

I'm wondering if the Regent/here! management will have the balls to admit the failures that the old PlanetOut management refused to acknowledge?

Hey there - just wanted to give you some support for your blog - it's good to see someone documenting and speaking out about the shocking and incompetent year or so on gay.com.
I gave up on it after the "upgrade" last year and all the ignored feedback from must have been hundreds of customers.
I am still shaking my head about it!

Thanks for your kind words and support. My own membership will be due for renewal soon and I won't be putting any $ into the new site until I see them acknowledge their massive fuckup.

Gay.com is offline today again for "planned maintenance". As usual, they announced it less than half a day in advance.

I like how the gay.com blog says "We're updating today gay.com with bug fixes and performance improvements."

I don't think they have ever mentioned bugs before. This system is full of them so hopefully they have done some serious bug fixing.
