Didn't we just do this two days ago?

On gay.com tonight:

Planned Outage
gay.com will be offline on May 5, 2009 from 4:00 am to 8:00 am PST for scheduled maintenance.

Well, maybe if they do it more often they won't be down 8-12 hours at a time. Although this is going to cut into their international prime time usage.

Check this out:

the new PlanetOutAccording to the second page, chat and personals on PlanetOut.com have been removed. I never really could figure out what the difference between PlanetOut and gay.com is (other than that they used to be separate companies years ago), and apparently lots of other people could not, either.

The two comments that have been left so far for this article are not positive. The color scheme is of this redesign is atrocious. I still don't understand what purpose PlanetOut serves compared to gay.com.

I guess we know how what the information technology employees have been busy with instead of actually fixing gay.com's revolving door of problems.

PlanetOut has been more about news, etc. Their PopcornQ forums for independent filmmakers and film fests has been great (though I haven't paid much attention to it in a couple of years). Having profiles and interactive chat on both didn't make much sense. But PNO was also more "lesbian friendly" and gay.com will have to work really hard to show that they aren't totally male-centric. And there are many more than just two negative comments; you only see two, but if you dig deeper you'll see at least 5 pages of comments with about a 20 to 1 ratio of negative versus positive comments.
